No time to think about Green life. It just like the story of chicken first or egg first. We are undecided to replace Polythene and Polypropylene bag for a reusable Cloth bag. The dilemma is no money to even buy food. So how can fill up a Green bag? Why that happened? What has been done wrong?

Every human action is connected to its consequences. Especially since 20th century the world became too addicted in over acting with so called industrialization. This action has tortured too much to our planet. Also this industrialization created a bubble of base less fragile economy and modern life. We just forgot about the harmony between Mother Nature and modernization.

Our planet has everything for us to lead our life if we take care about our planet. Same as a mother always has everything to protect her child. Green Life means leading the life which has a harmony with the Mother Nature. Not in counter of the nature. In order to be over industrialized we have serious problems related to health, nutrition, over stress, Spiritual, happiness etc. Now in top of all we have food shortage in our robotic life. That happened because of anti green life.

Now the question comes again. How can we think about investing in Green Life and Green Bag, if we even can not afford to buy food? The answer is it will be worst if we do not break through this vicious cycle and reverse the life into Green. Green life will bring us back into base. And Green bag is part of a Green life.

Is Polypropylene bag Green?

Is the word Going Green being used to make a real social and cultural change in favor of Green choice? I have doubt about this in most cases. Every company are labeling Green in their advertisement, trade shows etc. It just became a new toot to market any product.

Let see the Green Shopping bag or Green Grocery bag. Everybody is trying to stop using the Polythene bag. This is the right way to start on. One time use of Polythene bag should be a Crime. It is oil based material. It consumes lot of Energy to produce. But the uses of these bags are just to carry something from the store to home and dump it after that. Because of low cost we are getting addicted more and more in using these bags. But what happen after we dump it? It starts to release CO2 in the atmosphere for 1000 years. Scientists say Polythene is not biodegradable. It may never degrade or take 1000 years to degrade. So, thousands of ploy bag dumped everyday are accumulating. It is dangerous. So, stop using Poly bag and think about alternative is the first right step to take.

But what alternative are we taking about? Most large companies are intending to put a Green label in the Polypropylene bag. They say it is reusable. But did they say that Polypropylene bags are exactly same as polythene bag in the method of producing and dumping after use? They did not mention that. They say it is Recyclable. Did they say how to recycle it? No, it is not possible to separate the Polypropylene from other material to recycle it. Also it costs very high the recycling process of polypropylene. So, what this mean? This is exactly same as the Polyethylene bag. They just want to keep making money at cost of our planet and humane life by labeling the Green Advertisements in the Polypropylene bag.

We should reject that immediately. And use a Cloth bag.

The City & the Large Super Market

As I understand that, it costs more than 15 Cents for the City to handle one polythene bag once it is disposed after few hours of unnecessary use.

But the Giant Super Markets are giving away to the public every second thousand of these Polythene bags just to make money or make their Business. This circle are making the world worst every day. In addition to that, the cities are spending large amount of our Tax money to digest that Polythene bag.

What we could summarize about that dangerous circle? Why the City Mayors and its Legislation teams are not imposing a Green Tax for a Polythene bag use. It would save our tax money and reduce this environmental damage.

As I understand there are some manufacturer who offers Organic Shopping bag at less than 20 Cents. On the other hand Cities are still spending almost 20 cents to digest a Polythene bag disposed by the Super Market. So, if the City impose a Green tax of the same amount, the large Super Markets will start to use the Organic bag immediately.

The Super Markets are not taking that step voluntarily. This simple truth started to get public attention. But still very slow the awareness. Polythene comes from petroleum. Also it is not decomposable or biodegradable. It is flying garbage, blocks water flow, damage soil fertility, produce gases etc. So what should we do with this? Will Recycle? Or keep filling the landfill?

Recycle:
To recycle the polythene bag needs a lot of energy for its process. It requires extremely organized collection system and public consciousness to get polythene separate from other garbage. This is almost impossible. Less than 5% are collected after huge effort on collection. And it costs about $.17 to recycle. When costs $.02 to produce a new bag. So, recycling sounds like, using a Machine Gun to shoot down a small insect. Also the recycling keeps motivating the production and usages of the Polythene bag.

Landfill:
500 Billion to 1 Trillion bags are used per year in the world. It takes 500 years to 1000 years to decompose a polythene bag. Actually we do not know exactly how many years will take to decompose or even never will decompose at all. Only 50 years we have started to use polythene bag. So we do not have evidence yet. The scientists estimates 500 to 1000 years by their lab test.

Now let’s do the math to find about how big landfill will require damping all polythene bags used every year. If it takes 500 years to decompose, how many years it will remain there? Continue to land filling, how big the land require? How significant affect will have the air, water, land, animal, eco system etc. So, why do not buy another planet to use as a landfill for Polythene bag. Is it not easier? Or should we stop using the polythene bag immediately.

Solution:
It sounds like the invention of the shoe. Once upon a day there was a king. He did not want to make dirty his feet while we walk. So he called a meeting to solve the problem. All ministers offers many different solution such as, covering the country by carpet, or a group of labor keep unrolling and rolling a carpet when the king is walking. Finally a humble shoe maker came and advises to cover the feet of the king by leather. That is how the shoe was invented.

Same as the shoe inventing, we may not do recycling neither land filling but stop using polythene immediately. How does it sound? Wow! I am a genius. I just invented the solution.

Sorry, I did not invent. I have learned this from other humble country as Bangladesh. More details are could be found at AmeriGreenbag.Com

Go Green, Live Green with AmeriGreenbag.Com

<link rel='alternate' type='text/html' href='http://www.amerigreenbag.com/green-shopping-bag-blog/2008/08/recycle-or-landfill-or-buy-another.html' title='Recycle or Landfill. Which is valuable for other important uses. But that is not the only problem. The biggest problem is how to discompose that Polythene bag once we use that just for carrying Grocery from the store to home. Right after it goes to the Garbage Container. It is almost impossible to keep separate the polythene bag from any other garbage for the proper land filling. Even it is separated for recycling or decomposition, how much it costs to process? May be $0.17 for each bag. But to produce the bag costs only $0.02. And use of the bag may be for less than one hour.

Should we recycle the plastic to make a Recycled bag? No, because a lot of Energy needs to recycle the Plastic. That should be a bad Medicine to hide a disease. Not cure the disease from the root.

Does the Polythene bag create problem for Environment? Of course yes, No need to be a scientist to realize that. The abuse of using Polythene bag is like a bacteria. It increases every second with out a real necessity to use. Do we need any un discovered or a Hi-tech to find out an alternative to the Polythene bag such as electric car or Fuel alternative? No, we just need to be conscious and use a reusable Organic bag as we did 50 years ago. But at cheaper price. Because the industrialization makes it cheaper. So we take advantage of industrialization. Not abuse the Industrialization.

See the alternative to the Polythene Bag
